An extremely valuable plant for its multiple seasons of interest, the Japanese Stewartia is a small tree that grows to 20'-40'.

Its attractively mottled bark is reminiscent of a smooth tortoise shell, and is especially noticed in winter.

This plant also puts on a show of delicate, 2" single white flowers with orange anthers in the middle of July, when few other trees or shrubs are blooming.Hardy to Zone 5, possibly 4.
